Since the announcement last February, Baton Rougeans have been not-so-patiently waiting for Barcadia to open. The bar/restaurant/arcade took over the former location of Serranos at 3347 Highland Road.
Barcadia national brand owner Billy Blatty says initial permitting delayed the opening. Now, Blatty says there are only a “few hurdles left to clear,” but didn’t mention specifics.
“We anticipate being open the last week of January,” he says, adding that no grand opening plans have been made yet. “We plan to soft open so we may identify and massage out the kinks that often appear when opening a new business in a newly renovated building.”

The 7,500-square-foot building features authentic vintage pin-up art from the ’50s, reclaimed wood, vintage mirrors and chalk art on the interior. Of the space’s two bars, one will be an homage to the LSU Tigers.

Locals are looking forward to the return of Nick Hufft, the local chef of Curbside Burgers who went to work for the New Orleans Barcadia location in 2013. Hufft will be the Baton Rouge location’s executive chef. In addition to his four original Curbside burgers, the Barcadia-based menu features appetizers, sandwiches and hot plates.
The bar will feature more than 25 beers on tap, a range of canned and bottle selections as well as a rotating, seasonal specialty cocktail list. The arcade offers ’80s and ’90s classics like Ms. Pac-Man, Mortal Kombat and Donkey Kong as well as shooting and driving games and air hockey. Blatty says the machines will be rotated several times annually.
