Louisiana wins tourism award for food campaign
Surprise, surprise: Louisiana won an award for food. But this time it’s not because our food is good, it’s because we’re good at making our famous food look even better.
The National Council of State Tourism awarded the Louisiana Office of Tourism with the Directors Mercury Award for its effective marketing of Louisiana cuisine. The Mercury Award recognizes creativity in state destination marketing.
Food is one of the largest attractions in Louisiana, so the tourism office focused all 2015 and 2016 advertisements on some of the state’s most recognizable cuisine.

In Louisiana, good food means a good time. The Office of Tourism paired Louisiana fare with other notable state pastimes, like gumbo and Mardi Gras or oysters and an all-day cookout.
Tio Javi’s asks Baton Rouge to help choose new logo
Ninfa’s Mexican Restaurant on Corporate Boulevard recently changed its name to Tio Javi’s Fresh-Mex Bar and Grill.

The restaurant is rebranding, and owners are asking Baton Rouge residents to help decide among six possible new logo. Voting will continue until Sept. 14, and Tio Javi’s is hosting a block party Sept. 30 to unveil the new logo and celebrate the rebranding.
The menu at Tio Javi’s will not change, general manager Javier Pallais says. Along with all food and drink recipes, the same staff will remain. The name change is simply to signify a relationship between Pallais and the Moran family, a long-time Baton Rouge family of restaurateurs, he says.
