225 on the Champs-Élysées

As we speak, nearly 5,000 miles from Baton Rouge, Parisians might just be reading 225.

Previously unbeknownst to the 225 staff, pages from our July 2011 issue have been hanging on the wall of a Five Guys on the Champs-Élysées.

A Baton Rouge family stumbled upon the display during their trip to France and Italy this summer, and they say it was the perfect reminder of home.

It was the last night of René and Jonathan Greer’s trip with their two sons. The plan was to go to Benoit, a famous, Michelin-starred bistro. But their Eiffel Tower tour ran late, and they missed their reservation.

After spending more than two weeks eating French and Italian fare, the Greers’ tired and hungry sons wanted one thing: a burger.

And so to Five Guys the family went.

“You would have thought they discovered a gold mine when they spotted the Five Guys,” René says of her sons’ reaction to finding the American burger chain. “It was huge. Three stories high.”

But 16-year-old Jakob’s and 14-year-old Rhett’s excitement reached another level when they spotted a familiar magazine logo on the wall. An old Best of 225 Awards issue proudly displays Five Guys’ 2011 awards for Best Burgers and Best New Restaurant.

After 15 days of traveling, the Greer family agreed that the 225 sighting was just what they needed.

“To find that connection to home—I don’t think it could have been more special,” René says. “We were all reminded of how much we love Baton Rouge. There really is no place like it.”
