The Belle of Baton Rouge Atrium hosts the third annual Baton Rouge Greek Festival Saturday at 11 a.m. The local event will feature Greek music, dancing, arts, crafts and maybe even Mayor Kip Holden appearing in traditional Greek garb. A big draw for festival-goers will also be traditional Greek dishes from members of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, who will be helped by friends and cooks from Serop’s Café and Zorba’s Greek Bistro.
The menu includes gyro and chicken pita sandwiches, plates and salads. The festival will also be serving up a grilled lamb plate, which comes with a Greek salad, orzo pasta, stuffed grape leaves and pita bread. A bevy of sides will be available, includes an appetizer—Mezedes Plate with feta cheese, olives, stuffed grape leaves and pita bread. Desserts such as baklava and loukoumades (or Greek beignets) will also be on hand.
Admission to the festival is a $1 donation at the door or free with a non-perishable food item. Proceeds will benefit local charities. —Matthew Sigur
