Movie picks: There’s apparently a sequel to ‘The Woman in Black’

Let’s not kid ourselves. January is the month at the movies where utter garbage is coming out week after week. The New Year doesn’t start with any new trends in this department. The first weekend of the year’s only big release is The Woman in Black: Angel of Death, a sequel to the mildly-successful Daniel Radcliffe movie from 2012. Rated PG-13.

If you’re not into that, here are some movies that are opening wider throughout the month. Here’s hoping some of these will come to Baton Rouge.

This week’s movies
The Equalizer
(new on DVD/Blu-ray)
Someone call a doctor. Denzel Washington is barely registering a pulse, sleeping through this role. Rated R. View the trailer.

Tusk (new on DVD/Blu-ray)
Justin Long and Michael Parks star in a movie I would see if it weren’t directed by Kevin Smith. Rated R. View the trailer.

Reach Me (new on DVD/Blu-ray)
It’s the movie we’ve all been waiting for, the one where Sylvester Stallone plays an editor. Rated R. View the trailer.
