On the 17th hole of the second day of the LHSAA State Playoffs, he wound up with a triple bogey and fully believed he had blown his chance at a state title. It was a frustrating result for the Bronco senior but just one hole later, he managed to bounce back and sink a stellar 35-foot putt on the 18th green to secure the state title.
“I thought that I had lost it then (on 17),” Silman says. “I thought my chances were over and so on 18, I was really just trying to fight for a top three. I ended up making birdie, which was enough, but I definitely did not know that was for the win when it went in. I just leaned back and smiled, but honestly the smile was just from making a long putt (to end) my high school career.”
Silman shot identical 2-under-par scores of 70 in each round to edge past the competition and take home the silverware to cap off his impressive prep career.
He’s still ironing out what he would like to study when he gets to college, but you’ll be sure to find Silman out on the course at Covenant College, located on top of Lookout Mountain in Georgia.
