Rising Stars: Josie Viator

Josie Viator didn’t take long to make an impact at St. Joseph’s Academy.

The soon-to-be senior had been cheering competitively since she was about 5 years old, so even as a budding young freshman, she established herself as a leader for the Redstickers. Her impact has paid dividends ever since.

She helped guide SJA to the 2021 National High School Cheerleading Championship held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando and was also on the Louisiana Cheer Force Gold, taking home the World Championship in their division.

“When I was a freshman, it was very stressful because I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into,” Viator says. “The upperclassmen were helping me, so I just learned from them. Then this past season … I felt like I could really help the underclassmen and make them understand what you’re expected to do.”

And it doesn’t stop there.

She was also on the Junior All Girl US National Team for the second year, competing in the International Cheer Union World Championship, where Viator’s squad would take home the gold.

Outside of cheer, Viator often volunteers at the Baton Rouge Food Bank and is also a member of the French Club at school. She plans to continue her cheerleading journey wherever she decides to attend college.
