Being a two-sport athlete in high school is one thing.
It’s challenging enough to balance the demanding schedules, workout routines and time commitments of both sports on top of your regular class schedule and social life outside of school. Now imagine those same rigorous demands are substantially amplified, your classes are tougher and you no longer live with family members or parents who can have meals waiting for you when you get home.
That’s the challenge that lies ahead for Reese Mooney.
Denham Springs’ star football and baseball player is being recruited by multiple Division I schools to play both sports at the next level. On the gridiron, he’s a three-star quarterback prospect who has compiled more than 30 scholarship offers entering his senior season. On the diamond, he’s a highly-touted infielder who can slot in at both shortstop and third base.
He was once committed to play baseball at Houston before opening back up his recruitment, and as recently as mid-May of this year was committed to play both sports at Vanderbilt.
At the time of publication, Mooney was uncommitted but had his sights set on a number of different schools, including Memphis, Liberty and Wisconsin. And if Mooney continues to build off the successes of his first three high school seasons, the scholarship offers will continue to flood his inbox.
