Speed kills. Just ask Tramon Douglas II.
On the track, he runs in the 100- and 200-meter dash and is also a part of the 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams—both of which finished in the top five at the state meet—for Woodlawn High.
Douglas doesn’t stop there though. He uses that track speed out on the football field to blow past opposing cornerbacks on his way to the endzone, quickly becoming one of the area’s top wide receivers.
“Really, it was a little bit of everything,” Douglas said when asked about the keys to his success. “With film study, you really have to watch what other players are doing on the other side of the ball. And all that extra training we had to put in to get ready for the (games)—all that comes into play.”
Douglas has had to put in a little work this offseason as he’s battled back from an ankle injury that set in last year. But through his strong fortitude and even stronger faith, he kept a positive attitude throughout the recovery process to get back to 100 percent.
“The injury was tough,” Douglas says. “I’d be out for a while so it kind of set me back a little bit. But while I was injured, I also I prayed to God every day and remained humble. My mindset throughout the whole (injury) was eventually I knew I was going to be back. So I just tried to stay humble and stay hungry for the game.”
That hunger has already been put on display. Douglas showed he was back in the Panthers’ spring game in May, scoring on a 43-yard bomb in front of a crowd of college scouts.
