Braylen Montgomery just looks the part.

When he steps out onto the field, you immediately notice he has some natural born abilities a lot of others can’t train for. He stands at 6-foot-5 and more than 200 pounds and uses his physical frame both in the outfield and at the plate for Walker High.

His play on the field earned him a spot at Oklahoma next season, where he’ll face some of the toughest competition in the country in the Southeastern Conference.

“(Oklahoma) just seemed like the right fit,” Montgomery tells 225. “I’m actually very excited but a little nervous at the same time to see what the competition is like. But I’m coming from a background of playing this game for so long, I feel like I’m well prepared and I should be able to perform at that high of a level. I just can’t wait to see what happens.”

Montgomery isn’t shying away from the challenge either. He hopes to earn a role on the team as a true freshman to get some experience early and often.

“Obviously I want to earn that starting spot, but going in and playing as a freshman would be amazing,” he says. “I feel like if I work hard enough during the offseason that they’ll feel good enough with me in the lineup and feel comfortable to put me in.”
