Inside the newest EGGIE Salon Studio, now open near LSU’s campus

Sleek and stylish EGGIE Salon Studio officially opened its latest location last month, with decor that embraces color while also staying true to its brand aesthetic.

Owner Rachel Eggie Gibbs says she hopes the new location, near LSU’s campus between Umami Japanese Bistro and Modesto Tacos, Tequila and Whiskey, will help the salon reach a clientele that has yet to receive the EGGIE experience. She aims to attract out-of-state students who don’t want to travel back home to get their hair done and Louisiana natives who need a break from classes and beige buildings and want to feel pampered in the upbeat environment.

It’s one of two new locations in the works for EGGIE. Another, formerly Air Salon in Acadian Village, was officially acquired in April and is set to reopen under the EGGIE brand in January.

While the original EGGIE location is known for its black, white and gold aesthetic, this new Burbank space embraces the navy color scheme in which it was originally painted. Luxurious touches and modern accents, such as glass chandeliers and light-up mirrors, breathe a fun ambiance and high energy into the space. Customers will also be able to sit back and relax while they’re getting their hair done or processing in comfortable seating throughout the salon.

A moody tiger wallpaper adds campus-inspired flair, and a neon sign offers a space for photos post-haircut and styling.

Gibbs says that though the aesthetic might be different than expected, clients can still expect the same quality and service from EGGIE. Considering the smaller scale of this space, stylists will utilize only five chairs. The salon will employ newer stylists to accommodate the college student clientele that EGGIE hopes to attract, Gibbs says. And with its convenient location to LSU’s campus, Gibbs is brainstorming ideas for the college-aged crowd, like Mimosas and Blowouts events to capitalize on the game-day traffic and to get traction from tailgaters.

Growing up in Baton Rouge, Gibbs always knew she wanted to work in the hair salon industry. Following college at LSU, Gibbs took her talents to Houston for cosmetology school and trained at Therapy Hair Studio under Suleiman Telfah. She moved back to Baton Rouge in 2016 and opened the first EGGIE location in 2020, inspired by her travels.

She says her motivation was to “(create) a business model where stylists can come be successful and financially independent while doing what they love.”

Technically, Gibbs retired from behind the chair in 2022, save a few days a month when she works with women who have gone through chemotherapy treatments. Her decision was driven by the need to focus on building the EGGIE brand.

“Every hour that you work in the business you’re losing an hour that you work on the business,” she says she recalls hearing on a podcast.

From that point on, EGGIE has continued to grow.

As of right now, stylists have been working in the evenings at the Burbank location. Gibbs says she might tweak the schedule to accommodate the clientele and what works best for the busy schedules of college students and stylists.

Construction began in August at the Acadian Village location. Gibbs says it is slated to mirror that black, white and gold aesthetic that EGGIE started with. Keep an eye out for any updates on this location on EGGIE’s social media.
