Nordstrom Rack opened in October next to Dick’s Sporting Goods across from the Mall of Louisiana. There are 194 Nordstrom Rack stores around the country—and this store is the brand’s first in the entire state of Louisiana.
The 30,000-square-foot store carries men’s, women’s and children’s apparel and home goods with discounted prices from high-end designers like Vince Camuto, Kate Spade and Trina Turk. Baton Rouge was chosen as the first store in Louisiana because of its customer base and accessibility, says Jessica Canfield, spokeswoman for Nordstrom Rack.
“This is a great location for the store,” Canfield says. “It’s convenient for customers, and the location has a great mix of retail, entertainment and restaurants.”
Each store across the country carries merchandise specific to its location. In Baton Rouge, that means stylish LSU-themed pieces and warm-weather fashion from brands such as Theory, Hudson, Michael Kors, Tory Burch and Calvin Klein. Here’s how to shop the store.
1. Skip the long checkout lines. Similar to Apple stores, Nordstrom Rack offers mobile checkout so customers can purchase items quicker and from any employee they find carrying a mobile point-of-sale device.
2. Shop early and often for best deals. Nordstrom Rack offers an average discount of 30 to 70 percent on all items, but there is no set day of the week or month when trucks deliver the best items. “It’s really constant deliveries,” Canfield says. “That’s why we say shopping here is like a treasure hunt. You never know what you’re going to find.”
3. Take advantage of on-site tailoring. If you find a great coat, shirt or pair of pants that needs to be taken in or up, Nordstrom Rack offers an alteration department inside its store. Prices range from $1-$42. Check out the full price list at nordstromrack.com/alterations.
4. Bring the kiddos along to shop. Because the Baton Rouge Nordstrom Rack is so big, it has enough space for a children’s section—which you don’t always find in these stores. So pack up the kids and pick out some designer clothes for them, too.
5. Return online items to the store. If you shop online at Nordstrom Rack or sister company HauteLook and don’t like your purchase, save on reshipping costs and return it directly to the store.
