Catch the world’s first global film festival tonight, Oct. 5, at Manship Theatre

Calling all film buffs! The Manhattan Short Film Festival will be screened tonight, Oct. 5, at the Manship Theatre.

Rather than touring, the festival occurs simultaneously across the globe, bringing great films to more than 250 venues on six continents. After the screening, audiences will cast a ballot for Best Film and Best Actor.

More than 1,615 short films were entered into the festival, but Manhattan Short narrowed it down to the 10 best, which represent a variety of genres including drama, animation, comedy, horror, sci-fi and martial arts. Each film shown will qualify for Academy Award consideration.

Some of the films screening tonight include Hope Dies Last, which tells the story of a prisoner working as a Nazi barber during World War I; Do No Harm, where a surgeon must step in to stop violent gangsters; and Fickle Bickle, which tells the story of a plumber who, while housesitting, invites over his high school crush.

Manhattan Short Film Festival will begin at 7 p.m., with the bar opening at 6 p.m. You can purchase tickets here.

The Manship Theatre is at the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St.
