The Zoo Run Run returns to BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo Saturday, Aug. 26.
At the zoo’s 12th Annual Zoo Run Run, participants are encouraged to run (or walk) “like a cheetah” while they enjoy the scenery of the zoo grounds and portions of Greenwood Park.
Beginning in the zoo’s parking lot, the 5K race follows a trail through the zoo and out to Greenwood Park, then the path loops back through the zoo and out to the finish line in the parking lot. For younger runners, the Zoo Run Run also includes a 1/2K Fun Run. After the race, sponsors will provide food, refreshments, music and giveaways to all participants and their supporters in attendance. Then, all Zoo Run Run participants and their supporters gain free admission to the zoo (NOTE: You must be on-site before admission gates open to the public at 9:30 a.m. to receive free admission).

All proceeds from the race support the Baton Rouge Zoo and international cheetah conservation efforts.
“A large portion of the funds that are raised go directly to cheetah conservation,” says marketing and public relations director Robyn Lott. “So it’s cool that you’re doing something for your health, but you’re also helping the cheetahs in their homelands, too.”

Race registration is $25 for adults and $12 for kids (12 and younger) until Race Day. All pre-registered participants are guaranteed a Zoo Run Run T-shirt on Race Day. To pre-register, you can sign up online until 9 p.m. tonight here. Tomorrow (Friday, Aug. 25) you can register at Varsity Sports (2055 Perkins Road) from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and pick up your registration packet if you’ve pre-registered online. On Race Day (Saturday, Aug. 26), registration will be $30 for adults and $17 for children and a registration desk will be located at the front entrance of the zoo.
Race Day schedule:
- 6:30 a.m. – Registration opens
- 7:45 a.m. – Fun Run begins
- 8:15 a.m. – 5K begins
- 9:30 a.m. – The zoo opens to the public
