Summer vacation has come and gone, which means the most talked-about time of the year is finally upon us: football season.
Show your Jaguar pride tomorrow, Sept. 1, at the inaugural Southern University Football Kick-off Extravaganza, as eight of the most highly decorated players in the school’s history are honored.
Aeneas Williams, Frank Pitts, Harold Carmichael, Isaiah “Butch” Robertson, Ken Ellis, Mel Blount, Rich “Tombstone” Jackson and Rufus Porter, each of whom went on to play in the NFL, will be recognized for their illustrious football careers at Southern and onward.

Following the ceremony, blues recording artist Willie Clayton, zydeco musician Keith Frank and the SU Pep Band will perform. The event will serve as a prelude to an on-field ceremony held before the Jaguars opening game against South Carolina State this Sunday, Sept. 3.
General admission extravaganza tickets are $25 and can be purchased here or at the SU ticket office. A VIP table, which includes catered Louisiana cuisine and speciality drinks, can be purchased for $1000.
The event will kick off at 7 p.m. in the F.G. Clark Activity Center on Southern’s campus.
