Meet Cute BR wants to help singles find love this month

In today’s modern dating landscape, characterized by casual encounters and digital communication, the pursuit of lasting love can often feel like an elusive goal. However, Meet Cute Baton Rouge emerges as a beacon of hope, offering a solution for those seeking genuine connections in the realm of romance.

Marlese Harris, a seasoned entrepreneur with a passion for fostering love and companionship, launched Meet Cute Baton Rouge earlier this year. Recognizing the challenges faced by individuals in the dating world, she envisioned a unique approach to help guide Cupid’s arrow in the right direction. Alongside her daughter, Taylor Harris, a co-event coordinator, they’re embarking on an exciting journey focused on connecting local singles at the group’s first event on July 21 at Southern Cofe.

“The idea of Meet Cute came from a conversation with my mom and we asked, ‘Why is dating online so weird and why aren’t there spaces to just meet people who are looking for something similar to what you’re looking for? Who is doing this in my city,'” Taylor says. “I realized no one is doing it so I thought if I don’t see it I will have to create it.”

The core concept behind Meet Cute Baton Rouge revolves around hosting local speed dating events. These gatherings provide a refreshing departure from the impersonal world of online dating, allowing participants to engage in face-to-face interactions that facilitate genuine connections. Marlese and Taylor  plan to curate these events with careful attention to detail, fostering an atmosphere that is welcoming, inclusive and conducive to meaningful connections.

Speed dating events orchestrated by Meet Cute Baton Rouge will offer a structured yet relaxed environment for singles to meet and get to know one another. Attendees must complete a survey about their age, job, social media handle and dating goals (casual dating, making new connections and a committed relationship are on the list) before the big night. Once they arrive they’ll have a chance to mix and mingle while sipping cocktails from The Lemondrop Lady. Next, the group will roll into 30 minutes of a guided group ice breaker, designed by Marlese and Taylor, before starting an hour of speed dating, in which attendees will meet about 15 dates for four minutes at a time.

“I think dating apps kind of rob you of a true first impression. You don’t get to fully experience someone’s energy online and I think that energy is so important,” Taylor says. “We are definitely keeping people in mind, making sure that people feel comfortable to meet somebody new. And that’s everybody’s goal: To meet someone new.”

In addition to the traditional speed dating format, Meet Cute Baton Rouge plans to add creative elements, like themes, interactive icebreakers and thoughtfully designed conversation prompts to ensure that each event is an enjoyable and memorable experience for all participants.

“We are not promising ever-lasting love but we are facilitating an environment where people can meet and mingle and potentially find love,” Taylor says.

Tickets for Meet Cute’s first event start at $25. The event runs from 7-9 p.m. at Southern Cofe, located at 8418 Scotland Ave. Food and drinks will be available to purchase at the venue. Currently Meet Cute is only looking for singles that are 25 years of age or older. For more information on this event and future events by Meet Cute check out their Instagram at @meetcutebr.
