Have a ‘Night at the Museum’ with LSU’s Hill Memorial Library Aug. 29

It won’t be quite like the Ben Stiller movie, but the LSU Museum of Natural Science is giving you a chance to visit after hours with its new “Night at the Museum Series.”

The series launches Aug. 29 with a special event at LSU’s Hill Memorial Library. “Natural History Through the Ages” is a presentation on natural history, modern fieldwork and the important role of research collections from Dr. Prosanta Chakrabarty, an ichthyologist for the LSU Museum of Natural Science and associate professor in the College of Science. Chakrabarty will also host a question and answer session after the talk. Then, members of the LSU Museum of Natural Science staff will show and discuss selected specimens from The E. A. McIlhenny Natural History Collection.

The talk is the first installment of LSU Museum of Natural Science’s “Night at the Museum Series.” This opening event highlights the significant natural history holdings in LSU Libraries Special Collections, particularly in the exhibition, “Paper Tigers & Biblio-Beasts: Creatures in the Collections,” on display in Hill Memorial Library through Sept. 16.

“Natural History Through the Ages” is a free program and open to the public. Hill Memorial Library is on LSU’s campus between the Indian Mounds and Troy H. Middleton Library. The event takes place Tuesday, Aug. 29, 5:30-7 p.m.
