A few years ago, taking an iPhone shot of the floor might’ve earned you some suspicious side eye. Thanks to the popular hashtag #ihavethisthingwithfloors, today it joins taking selfies and food shots as another strange behavior normalized by Instagram.
It started in 2014 with the @ihavethisthingwithfloors account. An anonymous photographer in Amsterdam curates carefully composed images of colorful patterned tiles from all over the world. The feed is a dizzying array of mosaics, with tile designs shaped like cupcakes, animals, martini glasses, geometric shapes and scripty text.
Seasoned local Instagrammers know floors in Baton Rouge aren’t too shabby, either.
