Things to do this week in Baton Rouge: Celebrate America, make your own tote bag and more

Jam out to America’s music

Celebrate Independence Day with a free concert at the Main Library at Goodwood this Tuesday, July 4. This nearly two-hour event takes place right as the sun sets, from 7–8:30 p.m.

The concert is all about America, with songs sure to instill a sense of patriotism befitting the holiday. Don’t forget to don your red, white and blue clothes.

If you’re interested in attending, make sure to bring along some water. The Main Library at Goodwood is located at 7711 Goodwood Blvd.

Watch the biggest fireworks show of the year

Be a part of the biggest fireworks show of the year this Tuesday, July 4, at Baton Rouge’s annual Fourth of July Spectacular.

This evening-long celebration will feature food trucks and live entertainment. Listen to music and eat classic American food as you await the light show.

The fireworks show can be seen from any downtown vantage point starting at 9 p.m., and it will be broadcast live on WBRZ Channel 2. Head to 222 North Blvd. if you want to be at the center of the action.

Design your own tote bag

Ever wanted to make your own tote bag? At the Jones Creek Regional Library this Wednesday, July 5, you can do just that.

The library will provide you with a free tote bag and the means to design it. Makers will show you how to use a Cricut screen printer to iron on your custom designs.

Leave this event with a custom tote and the skills to someday make another one. This event is free and open for registration. The Jones Creek Regional Library is located at 6222 Jones Creek Road.

Cook with your friends

Gather your friends and race against others to make the best fiesta food you can this Thursday, July 6, at Rally Cap Brewing Company’s Fun Fiesta Cooking and Fiery Competition. The showdown will take place from 4–6 p.m.

For $65 per person, you’ll learn how to make guacamole while competing against other groups. Is your cooking good enough to win? Find out this Thursday at 11212 Pennywood Ave.
