LSU Museum of Art hosts French dinner nights

The “Toulouse-Lautrec and La Vie  Moderne” exhibit at the LSU Museum of Art just got even more tasteful.

Throughout the duration of the exhibit, the museum will periodically host a dinner as part of its new French Culinary Series.

The dinner nights will feature chefs from local French restaurants pairing a variety of wine and food. The exhibit will be open for viewing during the dinner.

Here’s the full schedule:

Thursday, Sept. 17: Galatiore’s Bistro
Thursday, Oct. 15: Louisiana Culinary Institute
Thursday, Nov. 5: Les Amis Bake Shoppe

The dinners start at 6 p.m. Tickets for museum members are $35 and tickets for non-members are $40. Tickets can be purchased here.

Local beer festivals coming up in October

Brew at the Zoo, now in its second year, takes over the Baton Rouge Zoo Oct. 2. The event sold out last year and online tickets for this year had already been snatched away as of Sept. 9. Tickets can now be purchased at the guest services desk at Whole Foods. Tickets are $40 and provide after-hours access to the zoo to sample more than 150 beers on tap, food from more than a dozen caterers and restaurants, and music from West Without. Find out more here.

The following week, a brand-new beer festival takes place downtown. The Cap City Beer Fest, benefiting Companion Animal Alliance, will be held Oct. 10 at North Boulevard Town Square. The event is free to enter, but in order to try beers from the more than 20 breweries featured, you’ll need to purchase a bracelet online ($40) or at the event ($50). Food booths will include Galatoire’s Bistro, Mestizo and The State Bar & Grub. There will also be games on the lawn and live music.

Mason’s Grill up for national award

It’s not the first time Mason’s Grill has brought attention to Baton Rouge. The restaurant has already claimed big awards for its Bloody Marys and Cajun Shrimp Burger—and it’s looking to take home one more title.

The restaurant’s head chef Willie Wallis is competing in the Hometown Breakfast Battle Champion event by Thomas’ English Muffins. Wallis’ Cajun Crawfish Tasso Benedict is up against dishes by 134 other chefs.

Anyone can vote for the dish once daily from now through Oct. 25. The winning chef will receive $25,000 and be deemed the “Hometown Breakfast Battle Grand Champion.”
