This week in Baton Rouge: Bonsais at the brewery, live music and more

Breathe life into a ceramic

Bring a ceramic piece to life this Tuesday, July 11, at Sharp Road Park during the recurring Classic Ceramics Open Studio event for ages 55 and up.

Purchase a ceramic or bring your creation to paint—just don’t forget your paints and brushes. The class provides glazing services, too, which permanently protects your one-of-a-kind creation.

This event does not require registration and runs from 9-11 a.m. Do not miss the opportunity to paint and glaze your piece at 501 Sharp Rd.

Learn the art of quilting

Start work on your own quilt this Wednesday, July 12, at the Central Branch Library with The Central Quilters, who are celebrating their 11th year of quilting in 2023.

They will be there to share their quilting experience and demonstrate what goes into making a quilted masterpiece.

The Hand Quilting event is free and runs from 6–7:45 p.m. at 11260 Joor Road.

Grow a bonsai tree

Learn what goes into raising a delicate bonsai tree this Thursday, July 13, as Rally Cap Brewing hosts the Louisiana Bonsai Society for a three-hour class about plant growth.

For $75 a person, the Bonsai Society provides attendees with their own tree, pot, scissors and potting supplies. The class aims to inform Bonsai hopefuls about the history of the tree and how to ensure a long life.

The workshop runs from 6–9 p.m. at 11212 Pennywood Ave.

Listen to some rock and folk

Listen to some folk and rock from a seasoned artist this Thursday, July 13, when La Divina hosts Randolph Thomas.

Thomas’ music has touched the people of the South since the ’90s. La Divina’s free event will also feature a wide selection of wines, beers and gelatos.

No tickets are required for this live music event at 3535 Perkins Road, starting at 6 p.m.
