This week in Baton Rouge: Geode and lantern making, wine and cheese, and more

Create your own lantern on Tuesday

Watercolor your own paper lantern this Tuesday, July 18, at the Zachary Branch Library.

Take this opportunity to make a free glowing painting for your room. The library will provide a lantern and paint supplies, but supplies are limited and so is space, so the event is first come first serve.

Make your room colorful with at this event, which runs  from 2:30-3:20 p.m. The Zachary Branch Library is located at 1900 Church St., Zachary.


Paint a huge gator on Tuesday

Paint a Louisiana gator on a 16-by-20 canvas this Tuesday, July 18, at Painting and Pinot.

The BYOB painting class gives you the chance to drink your own drinks and paint your own painting. For $35 a person, you get all the materials you need to bring a gator to life on the canvas.

The event runs from 7-9 p.m. and is for beginners, so don’t worry about your painting skills. Paint a little bit of the swamp at 7248 Perkins Rd. Suite F.


Have a cheese and wine night on Wednesday

Want the perfect display of food for a party? Learn how to style a cheeseboard this Wednesday, July 19, with Bites & Boards.

In this adult-only class, you will learn the seven C’s cheeseboard method, taste wines, get store discounts and participate in giveaways.

Tickets for this night of cheese are $85 a person and the event runs from 6-8 p.m. Get some free cheese and wine at 8201 Village Plaza Ct.


Make a geode Thursday

Make your own geode this Thursday, July 20. In a class led by, Tanya Ruffin of Creative Studios, learn why faux geodes are all the rage in the DIY community.

These geodes are made from glitter, paint and resin, all of which are included in the $89.99 admission. The event starts at 6 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m.

Don’t forget to bring an apron to 546 Bienville Street because things will get messy.
